Summer Art Camp 2024

Since 1993, Rainbow Art Studio has provided high quality art education and hands-on workshops to thousands of students in the Bay Area.  We customize our art program to meet each student’s needs and goals. Through our individualized instruction, students are encouraged to develop their artistic skills, creativity, and confidence.
Each course will include one outdoor drawing/sketching session at a local park as well as one informal art show at the end of camp.

• New students are required to have an evaluation prior to starting art class. The evaluation is a one-on-one session and students will recommendations for classes. Portfolio evaluation: $200, All other classes evaluation: $170

• There is a $50 registration fee for all camp courses (waived for current students). Registration fees includes a free t-shirt.
• A $40 discount will be given for early registration by
April 15th.


College Portfolio II (10 - 12th)

 An advanced course that provides customized guidance for students who are pursuing admission into art colleges and/or 4 year universities with a focus on art majors. Non-art majors are also welcome to join if they intend to create a supplemental portfolio to strengthen their extracurriculars in preparation for their college application. 

Students will develop portfolios in the areas of illustration, animation, architecture, fine art, graphic design, packaging design, and industrial design. They will be encouraged to participate in regional and national contests.

College Portfolio I (8 - 10th)

This course provides an introduction to building an art portfolio. Students will establish a foundation for thinking conceptually and develop their individual portfolio with guidance from qualified instructors. 

Traditional and non-traditional mediums will be covered. This will include but are not limited to mediums such as charcoal, ink, poster paint, acrylic, everyday objects, and repurposed materials.

Figure Drawing (9-12th)

This advanced drawing class explores human anatomy, proportion, principles of movement, and form. In each class, students will have the opportunity to participate in different drawing exercises that will expand upon their current drawing foundation. Each class ends with a short group critique where students give each other feedback on their works.

Students will capture the gesture, expression, and mood of each live model using mediums such as acrylic paint, charcoal, ink, marker, and chalk pastel. Prior drawing experience is required (not necessarily in figure drawing).*

Digital Art and Design (6th-9th)

This class is an introduction for students interested in digital art and design using the Procreate program. Foundational design elements such as colors, composition and font choice will be taught. Students can choose from the following projects: logo, stationery, poster, CD cover, and sticker design.*

Painting with Mixed Media (6th-9th)

This course is an opportunity for students to explore personal expression through painting with mixed media. Students will combine traditional and unconventional media to create unique results. A wide range of materials will be used, including acrylic paint, collage, fabric, wire, wood, and everyday objects. Students will also experiment with painting on top of different bases, such as vinyl records and wood.

Character Design & Storytelling (5th-8th)

Explore the fundamentals of character design and storytelling in this engaging course! Students will learn basic human anatomy, facial expressions, and figurative motion to craft dynamic characters from scratch. Discover a wide range of traditional and digital mediums, including ink, wash, poster/acrylic paints, and the Procreate program.*

* Students who would like to use digital mediums must bring their own iPad.

Exploration of Art (5th-8th)

This introductory class is an opportunity for students to practice self expression through art. Students will learn to create stories and experiment with a variety of media such as: pen and ink drawing, painting, and printmaking. Our goal is to inspire creativity and foster a love for the arts!

Sculpture and 3D Design (5th-8th)

This hands-on class teaches foundational design techniques that transform two-dimensional ideas into three-dimensional art. Students will bring their ideas to life through carving, modeling and additive/subtractive processes.

Materials include: clay, board, wire, fabric, plaster and recycled objects.
